Could 'Dum Maaro Dum' have gone the 'Tanu Weds Manu' way?

Some decent to good reviews as well as word of mouth for 'Dum Maaro Dum' gave a sparkle of hope for it's makers. However after a below average opening weekend, the film didn't see much rise in it's fortunes and just about managed to hang on and cross the 22 crores mark. If one thought that the second weekend would show a sudden resurgence, it was not the case to be either with the film getting further lost in the crowd of over half a dozen new releases.
Now this is where one is reminded of the success of 'Tanu Weds Manu' and the holding power of 'Thank You'. None of the two films had any competition for weeks to come due to which decent word of mouth allowed them to at least breathe on. With good number of shows being made available and the only publicity material on display belonging to these films, there was no other choice but to give these films a second chance.
This may well have happened for 'Dum Maaro Dum' as well if it had an open week available for itself. However that was not the case to be as a result of which 'Dum Maaro Dum' will now just about manage to break even.
