Excerpts
If your relationship is not working out, do you think going on a break will help?
I have never understood the concept of a break personally. I feel if two people are in a relationship and things are not working out then they work hard towards making things work, and if things yet dont work out then you break up. I mean when youre in a relationship you have to continue working on it. There is no middle path like a break for me.
Have you ever resorted to taking a break in a relationship?
No, never. I have been in relationships, and when they dont work out I have tried my best to make them work. If they yet havent worked out, then I have broken up.
How do you define the rules of such a break?
I dont know, I mean you can have the liberty to go out and meet new people, or you utilise the space to see how much youre missing the person. You use the time away to appreciate that persons presence in your life. But having said that, I dont really believe in breaks, so I wouldnt really know the rules that would define this break.
Describe your role as Aaliya.
Aaliya is a very ambitious girl; she wants to become an actor. She doesnt believe in the institution of marriage, she doesnt value her relationships. Whereas, Im similar to Aaliya in the way that I too am very ambitious and am very focused when it comes to my career, but Im also different from her in a way that I value my relationships, I firmly believe in the institution of marriage.
Considering that Aaliya is quite different from you. How did you prepare for the role?
A lot of readings with Danish. And then I just had to learn to let go of my take and believe in Aaliyas character. Like in Love Aaj Kal, Meera was quite like how I am in real life, but Aaliya was different so I had to go with Danishs vision. In fact, I had to keep reminding myself that this is just a role and Im just acting so its ok to be like Aaliya.
Describe your experience of working with Imran Khan for the time.
Imran is a very sweet person. What really helped that we got along wonderfully as friends. He made me feel really comfortable. The best thing about him is that he is not a selfish actor.
What was your experience of working with Danish Aslam?
One of the biggest reasons I said yes to Break Ke Baad, apart from the script was Danishs confidence. He comes across as someone who is very sure of his art. Apart from that it is just generally a lot of fun to spend time with him as hes very intelligent.
Do you feel romantic relationships have evolved over the years?
Yeah I guess it has changed. I feel the outlook towards relationships has changed, but the feeling is pretty much the same. Love means different things to different people, so the way people express their love now a day has changed too.
Is it a change for the positive or negative?
It really depends; people are a lot more in open about expressing things in their relationships. At the end of the day, it comes down to what sort of a person you are, and what sort of a relationship you are in.
