In 'Dus Tola', Aarti plays the role of Suvarnalata a.k.a. Sona, a fiery girl with the face of an angel. Daughter of an astrologer (Dilip Prabhawalkar), Sona is in love with a goldsmith Shankar (Manoj Bajpai). However, since her father isn't supportive of her alliance with Shankar, Sona cooks up a foolproof plan. It involves Shankar to make a 'mangalsutra' worth ten tolas of gold so that he can prove himself as a suitable match in front of her father.
"Strength of 'Dus Tola' lies in its simplicity. Moreover, the narrative has been kept interesting as well so that the folk fare flavour is kept intact. You don't hear too many stories that revolve around something as simple as a 'dus tole ki maala'. The story is such that it would be loved by people from all geographies and age groups. It has a universal theme," smiles Aarti.
After being seen in urban fare like 'Daddy Cool', 'Toss' and 'Shoot Out At Lokhandwala', her last few releases, Aarti enjoyed the unique experience of playing a small town girl in 'Dus Tola'.
"In fact we have made the setting of 'Dus Tola' pretty generic. We haven't stated whether it is North, South or East India," says Aarti, "The intent was to tell the story right rather than concentrate on the logistics around the setting. This is the reason why 'Dus Tola' has been designed as a folk tale, something that can be heard and told in any part of our country."
'Dus Tola' releases this Friday.
