As testament to its mission of integration and building bridges between countries, IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) initiated a special project in Sri Lanka during the Videocon IIFA Weekend celebrations. B-towns hunk Salman Khan and Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez came together to build a home in Ja-ela along with Hands for Humanity.
Recognizing the magnitude of the recent conflict in Sri Lanka, the IIFA Charity Initiative, in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity aims to positively impact those afflicted in the country. The project will focus on building 100 homes for those who have been adversely affected by the violence in Sri Lanka. Identifying with the aims of the initiative, Salman agreed to be the brand ambassador of the IIFA Charity Initiative.
Speaking on his association with IIFA & Habitat for Humanity, Salman said, Contributing to society and working towards building a stronger community is very important to me, and I am glad that IIFA is standing by this worthy project. I hope that this first step taken by IIFA will further motivate others to sign up and contribute to this project to build a hundred homes and put a roof over the heads of those who desperately require it.
Habitat for Humanity is an organization initiated by US President Jimmy Carter that is already doing considerable work in the region. As a symbol of solidarity with the Sri Lankan people, IIFA in partnership with Habitat for Humanity will adopt and rebuild a village in Ja-ela.
The IIFA Hands for Humanity project aims to inspire others to increase participation in the project to build better futures. The building of homes at Ja-ela is a symbolic gesture of contributing to the host country and spreading the unifying message of IIFA One People, One World.
