Aap Ka Kya Hoga Saregama will have to answer this question to be asked by producer of Housefull Sajid Nadiadwala.
He has decided to sue music company Saregama, and not Prakash Mehras sons, Punit and Amit, for defamation over the dispute over the copyright for the Laawaaris song, Apni Toh Jaise Taise, used in his just released Housefull.
According to sources, Nadiadwala paid Rs 15 lakhs to Saregama for the rights. Says Nadiadwala, I cant disclose the amount. But its almost five times the money required to record a new song. In any case, its easy to buy copyrights for songs from Saregama. In fact, we got Kaanta Lagaa from Saregama for Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and there was no problem, adding, My quibble is with Saregama for not going through a proper procedure. Im a professional producer who knows how to read the fine print. Im going to sue Saregama for defamation. Its either that or a public apology.
Saregamas inability to cover all legal and ethical bases before selling the songs rights has caught the producers ire.
