Move over the handsome hunks, who commit no wrong. In Bollywood, its time for the conman, who go around flouting the rules and teasing and tormenting everyone.

The conman culture in Bollywood started long back with late Vijay Anand's "Jewel Thief" and he continued it in his "Johnny Mera Naam".

In the 70's, Amitabh Bachchan's "The Great Gambler" made an attempt to strengthen the con man culture in Bollywood. After that, there had been a long pause until a few recent movies reviving it again.

First "Dhoom" and then "Bunty Aur Babli", both from Yashraj Films, have resurrected the conman culture in Bollywood. Significantly, both the films were quite successful.

John Abraham with his gang looting money and zooming on their super-bikes mesmerized the audiences. The cat and mouse game between cop Abhishek Bachchan and thief John was riveting, nonetheless.

In "Bunty Aur Babli", it was Abhishek's turn to play the con guy. Abhishek and Rani, a con couple just brought the whole house down with their antics with Amitabh Bachchan hot on their trail.

After that, debutant Vivek Agnihotri's "Chocolate" silently slipped into the theatres and was reasonably successful. "Chocolate" was about a bunch of goons pulling off a heist.

In Rohan Sippy's "Bluffmaster", Abhishek will once again be seen as a conman.

The junior Bachchan has already recorded the song "Sabse bada rupaiyya" for the movie's soundtrack. This super hit song showcased late Mehmood's incredible talent in the 1976 movie "Sabse Bada Rupaiyya". In fact, "Bluffmaster" will have no original songs but will feature classic songs of yesteryears on its soundtrack.

Then there is a sequel to "Dhoom" titled "Dhoom 2". For this film, Hrithik Roshan steps into the shoes of John and plays a conman, while Aishwarya Rai will feature as his ladylove in the film.

Filmmakers like Subhash Ghai, Karan Johar and Sooraj Barjatya are dishing out their usual fare, but the likes of Ram Gopal Varma, Farhan Akhtar, Apoorva Lakhia, Milan Luthria and Raj Kumar Santoshi are daring to step into less explored territories. Horror and action genres are also being experimented with.

Same is the case with comedy flicks. Comedy was always a cherished element with Bollywood and the audiences also lapped up the comic stuff overwhelmingly.

Even this year, comedies have dominated the box office like the two big Diwali releases - "Garam Masala" and "Shaadi No 1". Then there are "Deewane Huye Paagal" and "Mr Ya Miss" in the line.

But amid all the themes and genres, there is one proposition, which seems to be gaining ground in Bollywood and that is the conman. It's time for the conman in Bollywood to cheat, steal and spin money.
