The much-awaited Shah Rukh Khan's 'Temptation 2005' slated to be held here Sep 17 has been cancelled as Delhi Police denied permission to stage it.
With just three days to go for the first ever live concert of Shah Rukh in Delhi, the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) Wednesday informed about the cancellation of the show.
"With utmost pain and deepest regret, I have to inform that the long awaited concert will not be held. The police denied us permission citing possible law and order problems and we are helpless," Javed Abidi, executive director of NCPEDP told IANS.
NCPEDP, a non-governmental organization was organizing the show to raise money for the welfare of disabled people.
"It is a mockery of capability of the police department. Even the chief minister and the chief secretary of the state did not help us stage the show. Here authorities do not help people who fight for a good cause," Abidi said.
According to police, the show was likely to attract more than 50,000 people and this could lead to an uncontrollable situation. However NCPEDP does not accept this.
"When we were selling tickets and giving passes to only 28,250 people, there is no question of more people entering the venue," he added.
Though the show was conceptualized two months ago, the performance ran into trouble early over the permission of a suitable venue.
Without getting the clearance from the fire department, the show, which was originally supposed to take place in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, had to relinquish hopes for that venue.
Till yesterday, it was known that the concert would take place in a field adjacent to the stadium, for which the organizers had procured no-objection certificates from both the electricity and fire departments.
But the Delhi Police finally decided not to allow the show, the organizers informed.
