Police Monday interrogated actress Aishwarya Rai here in a case related to Salman Khan's alleged phone talks with her in which the film star spoke of his links with the underworld.
Police questioned Aishwarya at her residence in the upmarket Bandra neighborhood for over two hours, a day after interrogating Salman and recording his voice sample in the same case.
Sources say the tape and the voice records will be sent to Delhi for testing. A high-level meeting of Mumbai Police's crime branch team has also been convened to discuss the case.
The Maharashtra government is likely to make a statement about the explosive revelations of the tape in the assembly based on the report submitted by the crime branch.
Uproarious scenes were witnessed in the assembly last week for two days with the opposition demanding immediate action against Salman for threatening Aishwarya for not performing at an event sponsored by an underworld don.
An English daily had last Thursday published transcripts of the alleged phone conversations between Salman and Aishwarya that were recorded Aug 28-31, 2001.
According to the daily, Salman began calling up Aishwarya just before her departure to the US on a 50-day tour. During the conversation, he reportedly threatened Aishwarya with dire consequences if she didn't perform for underworld don Abu Salem's show, the daily said. He also admitted his links with Dawood Ibrahim and Guru Satam, it reported.
