Amit Sharma who makes his big Bollywood directorial debut with Boney Kapoor`s 'Tevar' produced by Eros International and Sanjay Kapoor is a name to reckon with in the advertising world. His show -reel plays out like a portfolio of some of the greatest hits of Indian advertising be it Google's 'Reunion'; 'Help a Child Reach 5' for Lifebuoy, the 'Silent National Anthem' in which differently-abled children play out their own version of Jana Gana Mana; Visa's film about a man in Kashmir harnessing the power of easy payments to bring electricity to his village and several commercials for Idea and SBI.
Not only has his work received acclaim from festivals like Cannes and Spikes but also shared extensively online , some receiving over 10 million views.Amit has also received 6 Dada Saheb Phalke awards this year.
Redefining desi-cool, Amit Sharma became the go-to adman for most brands - KV Sridhar, chief creative officer, SapientNitro says, "He is neither very flashy nor the so-called sophisticated type. When many filmmakers aped the west, shooting in exotic European locales and doing colour correction in Amsterdam, he opted to go in the opposite direction." Adds Priti Nair, founder, Curry-Nation, "He always had the hunger to do something different which persists.".
Says R.Balki noted film director and godfather of the ad world, "Amit is possibly the best film maker in the ad film industry. And as each of his 500 ads have been mini motion pictures it is just a matter of time before Bollywood too recognises him as one of the best feature film directors of our time."
As he soon makes his directorial debut with 'Tevar' starring Arjun Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha and Manoj Bajpayee , all eyes are on the director known to layer his films with nuance and emotion, not to mention, tapping into the roots of Indian culture, looking into minute details of the editing and the music.
