Kamalhassan said that it was the second time that a film of his was having objections raised over the title. This is a remake of the Hindi hit film which was praised by doctors in London. In the Tamil version we kept this title and in the film the hero who is not a doctor is often refereed as Vasool Raja for the job he does. This is the second time that somebody is objecting without even knowing the reality or raise objections before seeing the film was Kamalhassan’s reply to the doctors. The IMA had raised objections to the title since it showed doctors in a bad light and threatened to go to court if the changes were not made.

Virumaandi was the target of the ire of Dr Krishnaswamy who alleged that the film was to glorify the Sandiyaar caste and degrade dalits. The film initially titled Sandiyaar was later changed to Virumaandi. Finally the film turned out to be a story of family feud. In Vasool Raja the title character is a debt collector. He works for financiers who employ him and his team to collect debt. The role has nothing to do with medical profession.
