The story of Kannappa, the tribal avatar of Prince Arjun owing to a curse has been full of dramatic events leading to a climax where in the devotee tries to fix the God's eye with his own. The story has been filmed twice and the character was played by legends like Kannada Kantheerava Raj Kumar in Kannada 'Sri Kalahasteeshwara Mahatmyam' directed by HL Simha and by Krishnam Raju in Telugu 'Bhakta Kannappa' directed by ace director Bapu.
Now, attempts are being made to film the story again in Telugu with Sunil playing the title role and Tanikella Bharani will direct the film. Bharani, who directed the critically acclaimed 'Midhunam' is a great devotee of the Lord Shiva and it will be interesting to see his perspective of the story and the technique and technology he would employ in portraying the poignant story of devotion, submission and sensitive love.
