Ritesh Batras internationally acclaimed The Lunchbox has added yet another feather to its cap...
Telluride Film Festival (TFF) announced its official program selections for its 40th anniversary edition on 28th August, 2013. Every year thousands of industry and cinema lovers flock to this Festival in the beautiful mountain town of Telluride, Colorado without knowing the program which is unveiled only on the first day with very limited number of films from across the world selected for screening at this prestigious festival (being held between August 29 - September 2, 2013). And interestingly The Lunchbox is among those...
On being one of the chosen few, Batra remarked, "I am thrilled to be in Telluride and in a line up that includes my favourite filmmakers- the Coen brothers, Jason Rietman and Robert Redford. Its very surreal to see our little film getting such overwhelming responses here; hope The Lunchbox continues to bring accolades to India."
This festival is also very significant for the fact that many of the films selected for screening at TFF have gone on to win the Oscars in recent years. These include Fog of War, Brokeback Mountain, The Lives of Others, Babel, The Last King of Scotland, Juno, Slumdog Millionaire, Up In The Air, The Kings Speech, Black Swan, A Separation, The Artist, The Descendants and Argo.
Will this festival, therefore, mark the start of this films Oscar journey?
The Lunchbox, featuring Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui had its premiere at the International Critics Week of the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year where it won the audience award, Grand Rail dOr and then went on to win the Audience Choice Award at the World Cinema Festival in Amsterdam.
Presented by UTV, Karan Johar and DAR Motion Pictures in India The Lunchbox will have Indian release on September 20, 2013.
