Hottie Mallika Sherawat has kicked up some hot debate nationwide of late... Her recent appearance at 66th Cannes Film Festival would have garnered much attention but more than that some certain views by her on India and Indian treatment on women has made many cry foul.
In an interview to 'The Variety Studio: Cannes Edition' Mallika was of the opinion that she is not happy with the way India treats its women and so she is often seen making trips between India and Los Angeles, where she enjoys much more freedom. Quoted the ÂMurder famed actress, "I made a conscious decision to divide my time between Los Angeles and India.... So when I enjoy the social freedom in America and go back to India, which is so regressive for women, itÂs depressing. As an independent woman, itÂs really depressing."
Hearing these comments, among those who retorted is actress Priyanka Chopra. The Desi Girl during a recent UNICEF event made clear her resentment towards MallikaÂs statement by saying that she is completely offended with her remarks and also disagree that we are a regressive nation. "It was upsetting for me as a woman. It was upsetting for me as a girl who comes from India. I think it was extreme misrepresentation of our nation. I donÂt think itÂs fair," had stated Priyanka.
Not only this... Ms ControversyÂs Favourite Child Sherawat was imprudent enough to go to announce boldly that she is the first actress to kiss on screen and wear bikini - making movie buffs pooh-pooh in amusement. While lip-lock scenes are still considered on a cautionary basis, itÂs a known fact that the journey of on-screen smooching go back a long way. It was in 1933, the first onscreen kiss in the history of the Indian cinema was shot between Devika Rani and her husband Himanshu Rai in ÂKarma - besides bold scenes where prevalent even before this, say in 20s-30s. While Sharmila Tagore is the first actress to don bikini on screen in the film ÂAn Evening In ParisÂ.
Ohhh Mallika, showing off is fine. But when going on international stage please get your facts right, na...
