Quality acting and Manoj Bajpayee have always been synonymous to each other. However of late, and especially after the critical acclaim that 'Gangs of Wasseypur' fetched for itself, Manoj is on a different high altogether.
So much so that 'Chittagong', a film which was ready for a couple of years, is now gearing up for a good theatrical release. While quite a few special screenings of 'Chittagong' have fetched some good reviews by the bigwigs of the industry, including Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan, Manoj feels that not just the wait has been worth it, the film would also leave a very strong impact with the audience.
"Chittagong is a fantastic film and in its own way is great cinema", says Manoj, "There are certain films that instil a sense of pride in you; 'Chittagong' is one such film. There is a different kind of storytelling adopted with the film with seriousness intact around being honest to the story."
While the promos have already created a stunning impact, one wonders how the film could be kept away from a theatrical release for so long. Doesn't his heart pain due to the waiting period involved?
"I guess it worked in our favour", says Manoj, "Now we have got a right back up in the form of Anurag Kashyap, Sunil Bohra and NDTV. Also, there is a gap between the last film which was dealt with same subject (Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey) and this one. Now when 'Chittagong' would play on screen, people would see it on its own merit."
'Chittagong' arrives all over this Friday.
