Ramya aka Divya Spandana on Sunday backed out from contesting for the post of Karnataka Youth Congress president, apparently annoyed by the smear campaign against her by supporters of some senior Congressmen.
According to reports from Bengaluru, she was planning to file her nomination papers on Sunday, but did not do so after her well-wishers advised her to back out of polls this time. Following this, the actress is said to be on an Europe tour as per the suggestion of her close circles.
Only last week Ramya was elected Youth Congress president of Ward No. 3 of Shanthinagar Assembly Constituency. Though she needed just two votes to become booth delegate of the ward, she bagged eight votes making her president.
Ramya joined the Congress during All India Congress Committee general secretary Rahul Gandhi's visit to Bengaluru a few months ago. Earlier, she said her film commitments are going to keep her busy till next year and doesn't want to take up any big responsibility till that point of time.
