Small films add on to pile of disasters

Post 'Singham', none of the newer releases has managed even a respectable opening for itself. Such has been the lull period for Bollywood right through Ramzan that audience has just not stepped into theatres. Of course majority of films were destined losers from Day One and hence didn't carry any hopes whatsoever. However one still felt that at the least 'Not A Love Story' would manage decent collections for itself. This didn't quite happen with the film managing a mere 3.5 crore opening for itself.
So what really went wrong? Well, audience were just not interested in seeing a real life murder story being told on screen. Also, even though the film by itself was not gory, the promos gave an impression of being a bloody saga, something which put off many out there. If the promotional focus would have been on the dramatic quotient of the film, perhaps results would have been slightly different. Nevertheless as things stand today, this low budget film would eventually recover money for producers but theatrically it's a flop with collections all set to fold around 4 crores mark.
As for 'Chatur Singh Two Star', the collections were even worse at 2.5 crores and now stands amongst the biggest of box office disasters for Sanjay Dutt. Knowing it's impending fate, even Dutt stayed away from this film which didn't even see a proper release for itself. On the other hand actor/director Parvin Dabas did all he could to fetch attention for his 'Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande' but that couldn't result into any collections whatsoever. Folding up around the 50 lakhs mark, this art-meets-commercial film is a box office disaster, hence bringing a terrible week at the box office.
