Now that might take you by surprise, but thatÂs what people of certain sect have voted for...
The 3rd Annual Golden Kela Awards, awarding the Cream of the Crap/Worst performances in Bollywood, took place recently at the Rockdome, Ambience Mall, Gurgaon. It is an Awards night not every actor can rejoice but only the ones who have the wits to accept both good and bad that is thrown at them. And the gala event turned out to be a huge success, where Cyrus Broacha, the host for the evening, left everyone in splits.
Among the top winners this year were Worst Actor Shahrukh Khan for ÂMy Name is Khan (which also won Worst Film), Worst Actress Sonam Kapoor for ÂAisha and Worst Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali for ÂGuzaarishÂ. Quite understandably, none of these were present at the ceremony (or not, because according to the Golden Kelas, they celebrate the films they hate, and that's nothing to feel bad about!) The people actually present at the ceremony had a lot of fun, helped in no small way by host Cyrus.
However, some big names were actually present at the ceremony - Vishal Bhardwaj, Abhishek Chaubey (Director of ÂIshqiyaÂ), Habib Faisal (Director of ÂDo Dooni ChaarÂ), Pradhuman Singh (Noora/Bin Laden from ÂTere Bin LadenÂ) and film critic Mayank Shekhar were among the Celebrity guests present at the ceremony.
Golden Kela jury introduced a new set of awards called ÂAnti-Kela Awards which were initiated this year for the 'Saving Graces' of Bollywood. The Saving Graces were awarded to films like ÂIshqiyaÂ, ÂUdaanÂ, ÂDo Dooni Chaar and ÂTere Bin LadenÂ, ÂLSD and ÂPeepli Live which were apparently the only films that pleased the 'Kela Committee' this year!
Wait thereÂs more .! The all-powerful 'Kela Committee' was so unkind as to award the Chimpoo Kapoor Award for no-talent relative of a celebrity to Uday Chopra! That wasn't the least creatively named award this year. Some of the others were the Fan Favourites 'Baawra Ho Gaya Hai Ke (Have you gone mad?) Award, awarded to Sir Ben Kingsley for ÂTeen PattiÂ, the '3 Idiots Childbirth Sequence Award' which was awarded to the entire film 'Prince', and the Sonu Nigam award for Career Suicide, which was awarded to Sukhwinder Singh, who recently started his 'acting' career.
Another 'special' award was the Worst Trilogy in the History of Film which went to the grossly unfunny ÂGolmaal series, who have won awards in the last two Kela awards as well.
Well, hope the B-town people have taken this Kela/token of love in good spirit .!
