In the 'Golmaal' franchise, there has been an exit of Sharman Joshi and entry of Kareena Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade as well as Kunal Khemu over the last couple of instalments. However, three actors who have remained intact are Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi and Tusshar Kapoor. While each of them has stayed on in the franchise for all the right reasons, it is Tusshar who has been loved most amongst one and all.

Tusshar, if promos are any indication, audience - especially masses - have been loving your act all over again. Have you too experienced these reactions first hand?

You know what, when the promo of 'Golmaal 3' was first played along with 'Dabangg', I had actually gone to a single screen theatre in Mumbai to check out the audience reactions with my own eyes. I could see all the applause coming in for the gags that played on screen. I was assured there and then that audience had loved me and the film.

Since you have been a part of 'Golmaal' as well as 'Golmaal Returns' earlier on, it must have been back to some fun times all over again with the gang?

Of course there is a comfort level to be working again with the same family. It was like being called for work but then having enjoyed your stay out there as if these were summer holidays. It's a good combination of people to work with. One also sees a lot of similar things after being back to the same place where you have shot the earlier parts as well.

Still, other than the fact that on personal grounds it was like a happy reunion, how did you all manage to keep a professional environment intact?

You are right, it is scary for the director and actors to ensure that there is a worthy successor to the earlier movies. The challenge is with the writers to write something better. It is not that easy because there are expectations that are really high. You do tend to scrutinise a lot that whether hum logon ne theek se kaam kiya hai ya nahi. We keep wondering whether we could have been sharper or more energetic.

In such a scenario, how did you ensure that the brand Tusshar Kapoor remains intact even after the third instalment?

By trusting the judgment of your director. Eventually, he should be the most objective person on the sets.

Other than the similarity factor, does Tusshar bring in anything new whatsoever?

See, the story is different here and the characters too have different shades. There is a definite uniqueness that I have brought to the character. The part about him being mute is something that we have seen earlier as well. The challenge was to better it all and add on something to it. So yes, there is something added for sure and you would see that in the film.

Talking about going mute, I remember that in the end credit title roll of 'Golmaal Returns', you had told Rohit (Shetty, the director) to give you some dialogues in the next instalments. Seems like he didn't listen to you?

No, he didn’t listen (laughs). He told me that people want me to mute. He said that 'tu goonga hai, goonga hi reh, bol mat'. But then well, you never know, there could well be a surprise in store (winks)!
