Madhavan aka Maddy is one of the multilingual actors who skipped the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards in Sri Lanka, after a curfew was issued by various bodies of south Indian film industry.

Explaining the reason, the actor says he makes sure that he doesn't do anything that hurts the sentiments of his Tamil fans. “There were a lot of messages on social networking sites asking me to stay away from IIFA this year,” he says.

At the same time, Maddy also clarifies he is an apolitical person. “I wouldn't like to get into the politics of it. I was not present at the IIFA only to respect the sentiments of Tamils. I would do nothing to hurt them.”

The actor, who played a powerful role in Mani Ratnam’s ‘Kannathil Muthamittal’, a film on the Sri Lankan issue, says, “I did it for the love of Mani, not politics.” Madhavan, who hadn't done a Tamil film for a while, is bouncing back with ‘Manmadhan Ambu’, the Kamal Haasan starrer.
