The Theatre Owners Association today threatened to boycott movies starring Vijay in future, if he (Vijay) failed to compensate them for the huge losses they suffered after screening his recent release 'Sura'.
Addressing media persons in Chennai, Panneerselvam, a top office bearer of the association said, "the continued poor performance of films starring Vijay and the hardship and financial losses faced by exhibitors and theatre-owners forced us to convene an emergency meeting."
"We purchased ÂSura for a huge price. But its not-so impressive performance meant a loss of over 60 per cent for us," he said and added, "We tried approach the actor to provide us compensation. But he could not be reached".
Stating that there have been instances in the past when actors and producers have shared (our) losses by giving compensation, Pannerselvam said "We wish Vijay understands our difficulties and helps us out."
"After working out a formula, we have now asked him to provide us 35 per cent of losses as compensation. If it is not met with, we would be left with no other option but not to cooperate with him when his films are released in future". The combined loss in last five flop shows of Vijay was Rs 30 crore, he added.
