All this while he has been behind the camera, making others dance to his tunes. Now for a change the Badshah of Realistic cinema Madhur Bhandarkar will be seen on the screens. The National Award winning director for the first time steps into acting for Smita Thackeray's film ‘Society’.

When Ms. Thackeray had offered the film to Bhandarkar, he said to have readily accepted it. Although he plays a brief role, Bhandarkar had been happy to be a part of the film. Recently he had been for the film’s shooting that happened in Elphistan College, Mumbai.

‘Society’ already has big names involved in it, especially veteran actors like Dimple Kapadia and Randhir Kapoor. Besides, it includes Aditya Raj Kapoor (son of Shammi Kapoor), Sarika, Seema Biswas, Reema Sen, Rajvirr Singh, Javed Jaffery, Om Puri and Paresh Rawal. Interestingly, Aditya is acting first time with Randhir Kapoor.

Directed by Rahul Dholakia, the film revolves around the issue of water crisis in society. Rakesh Upadhyay is the creative producer while Prashant Thanawala is the associate producer and Sanjay Chhel is the writer of the film.
