Following the protests by Tamil groups, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai have dropped their plans to go to Sri Lanka for the IIFA awards in June.

Tamil groups from around the world have been telling Big B family not to associate with the present Sri Lanka regime which is accused of worst human rights abuses. They say if a globally revered family like that of the Big B's show solidarity with the present Mahinda Rajpaksa regime then that would mean lending credibility to a regime which has destroyed Tamils ruthlessly and committed horrendous human rights violations.

Abhishek and Aishwarya have said they will not be attending the Colombo event because of prior commitments at the Cannes Festival and other personal reasons. Mani Ratnam has already pulled out ‘Raavan’ from the IIFA event in Colombo.

Amitabh Bachchan is yet to clear his stand on Tamil protests against his participation but he has dropped a hint skipping its press conference on Wednesday. Although there was no official word from Big B sources said that he could not attend the press meet because of a "busy schedule".
