Director Balu Mahendra created a stir recently when he was quoted in certain sections of the media condemning the duets tradition in Kollywood. The ace director, who was the guest of honour today for Angadi Theru’s audio launch, said he was misquoted.

“I was never implying that duets had to be done away with in any film. I said it remains only of my pastimes to mute my TV as I see a group song in Tamil cinema, as their movements represented the movements of monkeys. I have nothing against duets though I would prefer a song in a film to take the story forward,” said the director.

“In fact, I said I also liked songs that were made like montages and so tried them in my films. It was in that vein that I said I wasn’t too fond of the third song screened at the audio launch of Angadi Theru,” said the director.
