Slumdog Millionaire star Rubina found herself at the centre of media frenzy last week when reports that her father was trying to sell her to the highest bidder emerged. This week a police report has said that there is no evidence that the young girls father was trying to trade her in for money.
The news first caused a furore when a British tabloid claimed that a sting operation had led them to uncover that Rubina's father, Rafiq Qureshi, was selling her for 200,000 pounds ($290,000). The girl, who played a young Latika in the Oscar winning movie, lives with her father and stepmother in a slum in Mumbai. Rubinas mother demanded an investigation while Rafiq vehemently denied being involved in such a deplorable act. Following the news, a charitable trust from Qatar has offered to take care of Rubinas educational expenses. So far the producers of Slumdog have been taking care of the girls needs. Now that all the brouhaha has been dismissed, maybe the young star can get on with her life.
