Raj is emerging from the shadows of cinematographer – director Santosh Sivan and was involved in co-producing Santosh Sivan's Malayalam flick 'Ananthabhadram'. And now Raj has turned director with the film 'Varnam' His mentor Santosh Sivan is the executive producer of the film.

According to Raj, 'it is a realistic film that hinges on adolescence. We have touched a sensitive issue that rocked Tamilnadu. It would be an eye-opener for youngsters'.

He adds that the movie is technically rich and is being shot using Super 16. We have filmed a song in just one shot and the story of a rural God of Tamilnadu, Muniyandi has also been canned. Monica plays a prominent role and the film is nearing completion fast'.
