Popular celebrities of Tamil Cinema gathered for the audio launch of Sakkarakatti, produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu.

The movie features Bhagyaraj's son Shanthanoo and Vedika in lead roles. A R Rahman has scored the music and is directed by debutant Kala Prabhu, son of Kalapuli S Thanu. Speaking on the occasion, director-actor Bhagiyaraj urged actors to respect assistant and associate directors.

'According to reports, a disturbing trend prevails in Kollywood today as popular actors are determined to do movies only for popular film-makers. Had I not been encouraged by directors like Bharathiraja, I would not have made it this far. Talent matters and not the years of experience'.

This observation from Bhagyaraj comes at a time when most top heroes don't even listen to talented budding filmmakers who work as assistants and associates. The actors always want somebody else to encourage newcomers and have a selfish notion to work only with experienced directors. This trend in Tamil Cinema is surely alarming stunting experimenting and new ways of story telling.

Most of these actors were once struggling to get opportunities and it is only because of some filmmakers having faith in them even though they were newcomers could they make it big.

Bhagyaraj emphasized the removal of the selfish attitude and give creativity first priority.

Director Ameer said, ' I've made three films and have received accolades from many parts of the world including the Berlin Film Festival, but I am not able to work with Rahman and hope I could achieve this very soon'.

Veteran director Bharathiraja on his part praised A. R. Rahman for his gifted ability and also urged the music director to act in a film.

'You can get cow's milk anywhere, but if you are particular about 'Tiger's milk' you have to wait for the opportune moment' Bharathiraja said with obvious reference to A. R. Rahman's musical talent being exquisite and also his non-availability to many filmmakers because a year has only 365 days.

The function was attended by K Balachander, Bharathiraja, S P Muthuraman, S A Chandrasekar, Dharani, Vikraman, K S Ravikumar, Murugadoss, Ameer, Soundarya Rajinikanth among others

The album has five songs which include a couple of songs inspired by Rahman's composition from his Hindi film Meenakshi – tale of three cities (Chinama Chilakama).

Two songs were screened on the occasion. The first copy was released by Rahman's mother and was received by the artistes and technicians of Sakkarakatti.

Speaking on the occasion, Rahman said, 'when Kalaprabhu approached me to work in Sakkarakatti, I declined the offer as I was really busy. But Kalaprabhu insisted that I should work in the movie and was ready to wait even if it would take one year'.

Tamil Film Producer Council president Rama Narayanan also spoke on the occasion.
