Prithviraj, Urvasi bags State awards

Prithviraj bagged the State award for best actor for his outstanding performance in Vaasthavam and Urvashi, the best actress for her role in Madhuchandralekha. Lenin Rajendran was chosen the best director for his film Rathrimazha.
Sreenivasan and Sujatha are adjudged the best playback singers. Saikumar and Padmapriya have been adjudged the second best actors for their performances in Ananadabhairavi and Karutha Pakshikal respectively. Actor Sreenivasan and Khushboo will get a special jury award for their performances in Thakarachenda and Kaiyoppu.
M P Sukumaran Nair's Drishtandam had been adjudged the best film while Roshan Andrews' Notebook was chosen the second best film. Lal Jose's Classmates has been chosen the most popular film.
Ramesh Narayanan bagged the award for the best music composer. Baby Malavika and Mani shared the child artists' award for their performances in Karutha Pakshikal and Photographer.
Major Ravi has bagged the best script writer award for Keerthichakra. Other awards were bagged by L Bhoominathan for editing (Vaasthavam), best debut director Avira Rebecca (Thakarachenda), best lyricist Prabha Varma and best story James Albert (Classmates).
State Awards comes as a surprise for many while for others it was a rude shock. The main point of debate was the selection of the best actor and best actress categories. In the major speculations on the awards that came in the media, days before, both Prithviraj and Urvashi were never supposed to be in the race for awards.
Many of the film buffs expected Mammootty and Padmapriya to share the honors. Mammootty with three offbeat types of films in a row were expected to become a winner. The grape wine says that a lot of debates were in the award committee before forwarding these decisions.
