Rishi Kapoor: Better Role Next Time

Rishi Kapoor is one of the finest actors in Bollywood. An actor who never really received the kind of recognition that he truly deserved. In spite of belting out big hits like Bobby, Karz, Amar Akbar Anthony, Prem Rog, Henna, Deewana, Chandni, Kabhi Kabhi, Naseeb etc. the most successful of showman Raj Kapoors son, Chintu (His nick name) never achieved the status of a Blockbuster star. Blame it on his paunchy-at-too-young-an-age stigma or alcohol-fixation, Rishi Kapoor couldn't get beyond his romantic hero image. He is back with a bang in two diametrically opposite films Fanaa and Love Ke Chakkar Mein. One is a super hit, while the other one is a non-starter from first day first show itself.
In Fanaa, he plays the role of a liberal Kashmiri doctor who is a protective father to a blind Kajol. His warm bonding with his screen wife Kiron Kher is one of the highlights of the film. He has also struck a natural bond with Kajol as well as this is their second film after Kuch Kuch Khatti Kuch Kuch Meethi. With a stellar actor like Aamir Khan for company, Rishi excelled in the screen space that they shared together.
After a decent performance in a big film like Fanaa, it was extremely disappointing to see Kapoor junior in a C-grade film like Love Ke Chakkar Mein where although he is the highlight of this extremely forgettable film, but the content of the film raises questions on his credibility as an A-grade actor. As the rich and flirtatious businessman Kotchar, he propositions his Irfan-Pathan-Lookalike employee to get his fiance to spend a night with him in lieu of a job. One is subjected to middle aged Kapoor gyrating to noisy songs with cheesy looking females before he finally realizes his mistakes.
It would be better if Rishi Kapoor chooses his films with more maturity in the future. For an actor of his stature can still grip the audience with his sheer originality and the emotional content of his movies.
