Mohanlal will be appearing in two so called non commercial films this year. The first one to go for shoot will be Pardesi' by P T Kunjumuhammed. The film presents Mohanlal as a Pakistan citizen forced to take refuge in a village in Malappuram. Based on some real incidents that occured in the district, the film will showcase the dismal fate of individuals seperated in the name of citizenship. The film is all set to start shooting by the 17th of June at Malappuram.

The second film is a big budget movie by K P Kumaran titled as 'Aakasha Gopuram'. Based on a play by Ibson, this film will be a Christmas release of Mohanlal.The film presents Mohanlal as an architect, ably supported in important roles by Bharath Gopi, Meera Jasmine and Nedumudi Venu.
