No introduction is required for the original 'Basanti' in Bollywood, the name which was immortalized by Hema Malini in 'Sholay'.
There may have been numerous ÂBasantis in the interim but watch out for another Basanti that is en route to be a memorable character in the 21st century. We are talking about Sushmita Sen, who plays the role of a prostitute called 'Basanti' in her next release 'Chingaari'.
Directed by Kalpana Lajmi whose last film 'Kyon' was a commercial disaster, 'Chingari' is a Vikas Sahni production that also stars Mithun Chakraborty, Anuj Sawhney and Ila Arun in pivotal roles. Bhupen Hazarika has written the film.
