Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Black" got rave reviews at a week-long festival of Amitabh Bachchan's films in New York.

Amitabh brushes off the praise directed at him with, "All I can say is I'm overwhelmed."

Speaking from Washington from where he will be accompanied home to Mumbai by close friend Amar Singh and son Abhishek, Bachchan spoke about the experience of attending the screening of "Black" with an audience that consisted of 70 percent Americans.

"There were almost 800 people in the audience, only part of them being Indian. They were stunned! They couldn't believe we in India could make a film of this calibre."

"It was rather sad that three of my best films 'Amar Akbar Anthony', 'Sholay' and 'Deewaar' couldn't be shown at the US festival because we couldn't get the prints.

"It's a pity that these films weren't given to us for one reason or another. But I guess 'Black' compensated for the loss. All's well that ends well."

"They didn't really know much about me or my cinema. So before the screening I had to give a sort of backgrounder."

Before "Black" was shown, Govind Nihalani's politically charged "Dev" was also screened.

Amitabh returns to Mumbai... "Immensely satisfied and quite pleasantly surprised by the way the American audiences responded to my films, specially 'Black'."
