The Southern districts have become a chosen spot for producers and directors to churn out their films.

Gone are those days when films were shot in and around Chennai only. Gone are the days too when producers looked abroad for shooting songs.

Curently more than a dozen films are being shot in areas like Kanyakumari, Thanjavur, Tuticorin and Pollachi.

While Sarath's Ayya is shot in Kuttralam, Ajith's Attagasam in Tuticorin, Prashanth's Adaikalam in Kanyakumari, Karakattakari in Sanakaran Koil and Vijayakanth's Neranja Manasu in Madurai.

Wonder why? Producers say that these plays are new on the screen. And for another, it is cheaper going here than going abroad.

When some of our own areas look fetching and gorgeous, why should we go to Alps, asks one producer.

Fair point.
