In a recent interaction with fans in Social media, Padma Bhushan actor Kamal Haasan answered to a question about his dream project Marudhanayagam. When a fan asked whether the audience would get to see it unfurl on the screen, the star answered that he is ready to revive Marudhanayagam anytime, provided he gets a producer to back the project. Kamal added that no Indian production house is ready to back the project. Kamal further said that he is planning to make the film in Tamil, English and French languages.
Kamal launched Marudhanayagam on a grand scale in the year 1997. British Queen Elizabeth and the then chief minister of Tamilnadu M.Karunanidhi graced the launch event. Kamal had shot a few scenes before the project was withheld due to budget constraints. The budget estimated when the film was launched was 85 crore rupees which was a very big amount at the time. Now the budget has risen to 500 crores.
Superstar Rajinikanths Enthiran that released in 2010 and turned out as a blockbuser was made on a budget of 200 crores. Nevertheless no production house is ready to invest 500 crores on a movie.
Meanwhile unconfirmed sources say that a Hollywood production company inspired by Kamals Viswaroopam has come forward to fund Marudhanayagam. We will have to wait for the official word from the Ulaga Nayagan before getting hopes.
