Apart from earth shattering opening and positive word of mouth pouring in from all quarters, the makers of Superstar RajinikanthÂs ÂKochadiiyaan have another reason to celebrate.
The Entertainment Tax rebate granted for the film by the Tamilnadu Government has been upheld by the Madras High Court.
On April 10, the Chennai HC had stayed the TN Government order of 2011, granting Entertainment Tax exemption for Tamil films with pure Tamil titles, clean U certificate and with a content that would add glory to the Tamil culture. Hence films like ÂThenaliraman and ÂYennamo Edho could not get the Tax exemption. However on May 12, the TN Government had issued a special GO granting Tax exemption for the film ÂKochadiiyaanÂ.
A Chennai based advocate named Muthiah had filed a petition in the the Madras High Court against the granting of Tax exemption to ÂKochadiiyaanÂ. The advocate had prayed the judges to stay the TN GovernmentÂs order dated May 12.
However the Judges who heard the petition have refused to stay the TN Government order granting Tax exemption to ÂKochadiiyaanÂ. The Judges have also ordered that no theatre owner should collect the entertainment tax from the consumers watching the film and they can collect only the ticket rates fixed by the Government.
This will definitely benefit the Producers, Distributors and also the fans of Superstar RajinikanthÂs ÂKochadiiyaanÂ.
