After signing Amitabh Bachchan for "Sarkar", the Hindi remake of6 "The Godfather", Ram Gopal Varma says he's becoming addicted to working with the mega-star and will be doing a horror film with him next.
The filmmaker and the actor will work together in "Darna Zaroori Hai", the sequel to the episodic horror film "Darna Manaa Hai".
Amitabh Bachchan, who has just returned from Amsterdam after attending a festival of his films, confirms the encore with Varma.
"Yes, I'm doing a story in 'Darna Zaroori Hai'. It's just two days' work. I'll be in and out of it. Working with Ramu in 'Sarkar' has been a rewarding experience. I don't mind working repeatedly with him," he says, returning the compliment.
As for Varma, he admits that the film will be a "full fledged horror story".
"This will shock people. But I'm now doing another film with Mr. Bachchan. I'm directing him in one of the episodes of 'Darna Zaroori Hai', the sequel to 'Darna Manaa Hai'. It'll be a full-fledged horror story in which Bachchan will scare the hell out of audiences... It'll have just a couple of other actors. I haven't decided on the rest of the cast, but I'll shoot in November," he says.
And he adds candidly: "Everyone is wondering if we've lost our heads to make a sequel to a film that has flopped."
Varma, who's now readying "Naach" starring junior Bachchan for a Diwali release, has already shot two stories for the sequel to "Darna Manaa Hai", one directed by veejay Sajid Khan.
"People want to know why I'm braving 'Naach' with a film as big as 'Veer-Zaara'. But there's nothing brave about my decision. I just don't see it that way. I know Yash Chopra is a far superior filmmaker than me, and Shah Rukh Khan is a far bigger star than Abhishek Bachchan. But my argument is, 'Naach' wouldn't work if it isn't liked even if we release it as a solo release. I can't believe audiences won't see two films if they liked both.
"'Naach' is a very low-cost film as compared to 'Veer-Zaara'. Far fewer people have to like my film for it to be a success. Even as a viewer I'd prefer to see 'Veer-Zaara' first. Then if I like it I'll see it thrice and then go and see 'Naach'. I'm happy with that. I don't believe the ticket-buying capacity of the audience has decreased. It all depends on the audiences' interest level."
However, Varma is now considering the possibility of releasing "Naach" a couple of days ahead of the Diwali Friday to give his film a head start.
