Captain Vijyakanth who has completed 25 years of acting career has shifted base to politics which has made him reduce his acting commitments. The star who was the former President of South Indian Federation of Film Artistes was last seen in the film Virudhagiri that released in 2011.
That the actor turned politician has unofficially quitted acting is a loss not only to his fans but also to Film Institute students. This was admitted by Kamal Subramaniam a former student of the institute who has directed a film titled Marumugam which is touted as a crime thriller.
Recently the press meet of Marumugam was held in Chennai and the debutante director has stated that Vijayakanth not acting in films is a big loss to the students of the Film Institute. The director said that the actor turned Politician was always open to help the students coming out of the institute and every aspiring director who has finished his course in the institute will take his script to Vijaykanths residence at Rajabadhar street, Chennai.
It is worth mentioning here that Vijaykanth acted in a pivotal role in the film Oomai Vizhigal that released in 1986. It is said the star who had just established his position in the industry at that time acted in the film without receiving a penny, since every technician as well as the producer of the film were students of the Film institute. Oomai Vizhigal advertised as a product of the Film institute students, turned out to be a super hit as well as a critically acclaimed thriller.
