COVID-19: Case against Mohanlal for encouraging myths?

In connection with the Janata curfew campaign, actor Mohanlal shared a piece of unscientific information, that lead to widespread criticism from the public. According to his message collective clapping can kill the coronavirus. “Clapping together is a big process. The sound produced is like a mantram (chant) and there is a possibility that many bacteria and virus is likely to be destroyed. Let it all get destroyed … Sanitisation is something that should be learnt in schools and colleges and not observed for just one day, he said in an interview with a news channel. Soon, it became the ripe subject for online trolls and memes with several questioning the actor’s intelligence.
A social media user identified as Sinu filed a complaint at the Human Rights Commission for spreading misinformation in the time of the national disaster period. Dinu also shared the screenshot of the complaint registered online. He wrote that the actor should use his stardom in a responsible way. After the complaint went viral on social media, reports have been doing the round the Human Rights Commission has registered a case against the Complete actor.
On Wednesday, the Kerala State Human Rights Commission has clarified that no case has been registered against the actor. According to the press statement released by the SHRC, the commission is yet to review the online complaint. “On Tuesday an online complaint was obtained against the statement made by Mohanlal regarding coronavirus. Apart from numbering the complaint, the Commission has not viewed or passed it,” read the statement.
