Actress Sunny Leone, her husband Daniel Weber, and an employee have been facing criminal proceedings in a cheating case registered against them. On Thursday, the Kerala High Court expressed its inclination to quash the proceedings, as it found no criminal offense against Sunny and commented that she was being unnecessarily harassed. The bench said, "What is the criminal offense in this? You are unnecessarily harassing the person (Sunny). I am inclined to quash this."
The court postponed the case until March 31, allowing the investigation to continue. The case was initially stayed on November 16, 2022, after the three were accused of cheating a Kerala-based event manager who claimed that Sunny did not appear despite receiving a large sum of money. Sunny and her co-accused argued that they were innocent and that the alleged offenses did not apply to them, even if the claims were true. They also claimed that the complainant did not suffer any losses due to them, but their lives were being negatively impacted by the case.
The petitioners sought the High Court's intervention in quashing the proceedings against them, noting that a civil suit with the same allegations had already been dismissed by a magistrate's court in July 2022 due to a lack of evidence.
