Over the weekend, at least four Tamil films confirmed their Pongal 2017 release plans apart from Ilayathalapathy VIjay's 'Bairavaa' and G.V.Prakash Kumar's 'Bruce Lee'.

At the dawn of the new week, it has been confirmed that the list of films trying to cash in on the long festival weekend has not just ended with another prominent addition coming up.

It has been officially confirmed that debutant director Ranjith Jeyakodi's thriller flick starring Vijay Sethupathi and Gayathri in lead roles will be releasing for Pongal 2017. This will be Vijay Sethupathi's first release of the new year. He has had six releases in 2016.

With the inclusion of 'Puriyaadha Pudhir' the Pongal festival race is expected to have seven releases and the number will become eight if Suriya's 'S3' also joins the race.

This will be the double of Pongal 2016 which saw four releases. Given the dwindling count of theatres in Tamil Nadu it is near impossible to accommodate eight films on the same day or the same weekend.

But it will be amusing to wait and watch what happens in Kollywood in the next few weeks as far as Pongal Festival release plans are concerned.
