Debutant Lokesh Kanakaraj's 'Maanagaram' had a premiere screening, days ahead of its theatrical release and the film was poured in with phenomenal positive reviews from all the critics.

The film with predominantly newcomers and less known faces released in a relatively less number of screens but has taken a tremendous opening propelled by positive word of mouth.

in Chennai the film has opened in 12 screens and had 84 shows screened in its first three days. With this the film has collected Rs.17,82,340 which is a phenomenal number given the star value and the number of screens allotted for the film. The average theater occupancy rate has been 90%. It is said that the second and third day performance was much better than the first day. This is clear evidence that the film has gained momentum by positive word of mouth.

It is also reported that many screens across Chennai will be either changing the film to the bigger screen in their complex or increase the number of shows per day. The film produced by Potential Studios banner is expected to become a critically acclaimed massive hit of the year.
