With the highest number of 137 films as on 31st December 2010 the Kannada film industry recorded 20 percent success, lost many valuable personalities, dipped in controversies, saw some good developments and pocketed a few good awards at the national level. VK Murthy bagged the Phalke award and actress Arundhati Nag got the Padmasri while Dr B Saroja Devi was honored with NTR award.
As for as the investment from 136 films in 2010 (122 films in 2009) is concerned Rs.275 crores is the average figure in which eight prominent films earned easily Rs.100 crores is a pretty good development on the part o the Kannada cinema industry.
The films like Super (Upendra and Nayanthara producer Rockline Venkatesh), Jackie (Puneeth Rajakumar and Bhavana producer Smt Parvathamma Rajakumar), Aptha Rakshaka (Dr Vishnuvardhana and Vimala Raman producer Krishna Prajwal), Pancharangi (Diganth and Nidhi Subbaiah producer Yogaraj Bhat and Subramanya), Krishnan Love Story (Ajay Rao and Radhika Pandit Producer Uday K Mehtha and Mohan G Nayak), Prithvi (Puneeth Rajakumar and Parvathi Menon producers Soorappa Babu and NS Rajakumar), Veera Parampare (Ambarish, Sudeep and Aindrita Ray producer S Narayan), Eradane Madhuve (Ananthnag Suhasini, Premkuamr producers Rajiv and Suresh) made fantastic progress in the box office.
Among the average films that did not lose money but made marginal profits are Jayahe, Porkhi, Premism, Crazy Kutumba, Antharthma, Naanu Nanna Kanasu, Shanker IPS, Hoo, Theertha, Gandedhe, Deadly-2, Shourya, Appu Pappu, Kari Chirathe, Jothegara and Kichcha Huchcha. Some of these films had very good opening and the television rights share that came in solid amount lifted them to the profit range.
Among the top flops films that were highly expected are Cheluveye Ninne Nodalu, Sugriva, Thamassu and (Mylari results are not known) of Shivarajakumar, Just Math Mathalli of Sudeep and Ramya, School Master of Dr Vishnuvardhana, Suryakanthi of Chetan, Swayamvara of Srinagara Kitty and Diganth, Thipparahalli Tharlegalu of director SV Rajendra Singh Babu, Sathya of Kumar Govind, Parole the debut production of ace editor Suresh Urs, Ullasa Utsaha and Eno Onthara of golden star Ganesh, Preethiyinda Ramesh, Shock, starring Ramesh Aravind, Nooru Janmaku of director Nagathihalli Chandrasekhar that made more controversy news, Aithalakkadi of 108 artists, Punda and Yaksha of Yogish with new entry Nana Patekar, Mathe Mungaru of Srinagara Kitty, Nannavanu of Prajwal Devaraj, Sri Harikathe and Sihigali of Sri Murali all crashed miserably in the box office.
